Hi everyone. I came into this big blue jar, it appears to be a five
gallon, something.

There are no markings other than on the bottom. It has a metal wire
around the neck with a wooden handle.

Thanks,

Nick

Arthur Peterson's "400 Trademarks on Glass" says of this fairly common mark,
the I in horizontal diamond is Illinois Glass of Alton IL but enclosed in
the O makes it became Owen-Illinois, the mark being used from 1929.
Peterson says another version of the mark was used from 1954. I think
Owen-Illinois is still in business. -BobB

Wow, thanks Bob, that's very detailed info.

One more question, What was this kind of jar used for?

Thanks again, Nick

Looks to me to be some sort of "food" jar. Shape reminds me of a Horlick's
Malted Milk jar.
